A little wander

Daughters of Clio is a weekly prompt group I started with Lyn, Tara, and 'Trix. Technically this week is my prompt, so I don't have to write for it, but I felt like it anyway. The prompt is "the cave in the hill by the water."

Daro grabbed her hand. "Come on! I found it last year, it's really cool!"

Gerda allowed herself to be dragged along--Daro's hand was warm and strong, and she liked the way it nearly enveloped hers--but she wouldn't go without protest. "We're supposed to be watching the carts! We can't just leave!"

"If any of them get close to the carts the goats will bite them. Come on." Daro was leading her through increasingly hillier land, not quite in the mountains of the zunendare, but definitely out of the flat lands where their people kept themselves. It was summer, of course, and the air was warm and humid, the grass bright green under their feet. It seemed coarse as Gerda tripped and stumbled over it, clutching Daro's hand. The sharp smell of crushed grass wafted up to her nose.

"How far is it? If we get caught wandering off we'll be in trouble!"

"Not far at all. In fact..." Daro stopped suddenly, and Gerda stumbled into him, catching herself on his shoulders with a little cry. The muscles of his shoulders were firm, and he wasn't at all sweaty, so she wasn't complaining.

Then she looked down. Just below their feet a stream wandered across the slope. And just below that was a hole.

Yeah, this was totally going to go somewhere, but... I got bored. Let me know if you're interested in more!
