Title: Tilted
Word count: 198 (total: 1,003)
Rating: PG, for everything being sad?
Prompt: Crowdfunding Creative Jam: image prompt
Notes: This is a very sad story. But it's useful backstory! Now I know how Tay's mom died!
The world is tilting.
Tay runs out of the house, not listening to her father, not listening to her brother. All she can think is that she has to get out of here.
She finds herself running for the coast. Of course it would be the coast. That’s where her mother is. Was. Should be.
She climbs a hill, one of her favorite places. Once one of her favorite places. It’s spring and flowers are blooming all over but everything looks wrong. Everything is at the wrong angle. She tears flowers and scatters them, angry at them for being so bright and cheerful when Tay’s life has just been destroyed.
Her mind careens back and forth between two thoughts. Mama is gone. Mama can’t be gone. Mama is gone. Mama can’t be gone.
Mama will never come back. Mama has to come back.
What will Tay do without her?
She stands up on the top of a rock, sucking in a breath at the dizziness that threatens to overwhelm her. The sea is there, to her left, to her right… she can’t keep track of which way the waves are going. Everything is upside-down and inside-out.
